Pick-Your-Own
Fall was such an exciting season for me as a kid. Growing up in New England, I remember going to a pumpkin patch near my house and getting the best pumpkin for carving. My family would take me apple picking in Vermont, the crisp foliage crunching under my feet as I walked through the orchard. In Southern California, autumn isn't really a sensory experience like it is back home, but there are still plenty of farms that have pick-your-own fall produce. In fact I am going to one today. The farmer has apples, pears, and asian pears. I am so excited to go pick my own produce again! I am a firm believer that people should see and learn about where their food comes from, and going to the farm is the best way to do that. This weekend, pack up your kids and take them to the farm nearest you, and it will be a learning experience for all.
